The Instructors at the Salt Mine all have some type of industry training. We believe that being good at something does not necessarily mean you can teach that skill to others. We believe in giving everyone the chance to get the training they need to become an instructor, and so the Salt Mine reimburses 1/2 the cost of training to their contracted instructors. Melinda "Mel" Heins has been a Pole Fitness Instructor for 6 years. She fell in love with pole during her first class in 2007 and made it her goal to become an instructor. She is one of the partners of the Salt Mine and loves to bring in Pole Stars and Master Trainers to share with Utah. Mel is AFAA Group Exercise Certified, PFA Pole Fitness Certified in Levels 1 - 4, XPERT levels 1-2 Trained, TRX certified and has completed course work for STOTT Pilates Mat and Reformer - Essential and Intermediate levels. She is the Co-Leader (with Salt Mine Partner, Sarah) of Utah Peace and Pole - a Facebook group dedicated to playing nice in the Utah pole community. She is available for Private Lessons, Private Training, and Private Parties.
Katie Petersen - nothing makes Katie feel more feminine and sexy than pole dancing. Katie has been pole dancing since 2010 and says "Hair Flips are a must!" She loves how much confidence she has gained since starting. Outside of Pole, Katie works in Marketing and is currently working towards her Bachelors in Strategic Communications. Katie loves to turn the lights down, turn the music up, and freestyle. She is so thankful for the positive people pole dancing has brought into her life. Sarah Baird has been a Pole Fitness instructor for 4 years. She began as a yoga and dance instructor and found Pole Fitness and was excited about learning a new skill. She is one of the Partners at the Salt Mine and she and her amazing handy man of a husband have helped to create some of the creature comforts we enjoy - Air conditioning, safe poles, brooms! She also is the Co-Leader of Utah Peace and Pole where she spreads her positivity and joy to everyone. Sarah is PFA Pole Fitness Certified, is a Master Yoga Instructor and is AFAA Certified in Group Fitness. She heads up our Art Installations and our Pole Jams for a cause. Sarah is available for private classes, private training and parties.
Wren has been poling since 2011, and has worked as a professional pole fitness instructor for the past three years. She specializes in the vertical gymnastics style of pole, and loves to teach classes that break down tricks, build confidence, and offers athletic conditioning needed for staying off the ground! Wren is the 1st Place winner of the Aerialympics 2015, 2nd place runner up for Colorado Pole Championships 2014 & 2015, and was a featured final;ist in the PCS 2015 event at the Arnold Classic.
Lorinda Kay has been involved in the pole industry since 2007 and completed her instructor certification in 2008. She spent several years as a studio owner and was awarded Best Instructor by Pole Dance International Magazine in 2011. Aside from pole she works as a physical therapy aide and is a full time student. She recently earned her AS in Pre-Health Science from SLCC, is working on her BS in Exercise Science from the University of Utah, and has ultimate plans to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Lorinda is a former national pole dance competitor, but has found she is most comfortable in the classroom where her energy is unparalleled. She has a unique way of inspiring students to realize their full potential and abilities and focuses on a balanced approach to pole practice. She feels teaching is an honor and privilege and has coached and instructed some of the finest athletes in the industry.
Noelle Teske fell in love with pole dancing in 2010, and just months later became a certified instructor to the intermediate level. She is a dancer at heart with experience in nearly every style you can name, including competitive ballroom and Latin dance, hip hop, ballet, and contemporary. She brings this dance background - as well as gymnastics - to her approach to pole training and instruction. She has competed at a national level, but enjoys choreographing for performance. Outside the studio, she is a newly minted physician, a pilates and yoga enthusiast, book junkie, and Diet Coke addict.
Shelly Meier has been in the pole industry in Salt Lake since 2007. If you know a woman who has been involved with pole, chances are, Shelly was her first instructor! She embraces the sensuality of pole and loves helping students become physically strong and psychologically self confident. Shelly adores it when each students creates their own unique style of dance. She believes that pole is accessible to any woman, regardless of their age. Her motto is "Making Salt Lake beautiful - one Pole Class at a time! She is certified PFA Pole Fitness levels 1 - 3, and AFFA Group Exercise Certified.
Brittany Hansen became addicted to pole from her "second" class in 2015. She has been determined to teach it ever since and grow the awareness of health benefits that naturally occur in pole dancing. She has been XPERT levels 1-2 certified and aims at to empower women in their confidence, sexuality, strength, and self acceptance. Comparison and judgment are required to be left outside the classroom. Other than pole, Britt is a mama of two boys, published author, has a bachelors degree in Behavioral Science/Anthropology, doula, black belt, avid reader, foodie, constantly changes her hair style/color and is currently building a business. Britt is available for Private Lessons, Private/Group Training, and Private Parties.
Zoe is a registered 200 hour yoga instructor who specializes in restorative and flow yoga. Zoe’s aerial journey began 5 years ago when she participated in her first pole class. Since then she has included silks, hammock, lyra, chains, and fire dancing to her repertoire. She has competed and performed internationally in the U.S. and Canada on pole, silks, and lyra, and she loves learning different forms of expression. You will always find Zoe swinging from the ceiling (and rolling around the floor!) at the studio, and she is excited to support you on your empowering journey towards strength, flexibility, and confidence!
